The disaster struck on Wednesday after a glacial lake burst its banks, sending a torrent of water and debris downstream that overwhelmed villages, roads, and infrastructure in both Nepal and Tibet [230512]. The confirmed death toll has reached 584 in Nepal and five in Tibet, according to Nepal’s disaster authority [229582].
