Nepal Flash Floods: Missing Soars to 1,924 as Rescuers Battle to Reach 100 Trapped in Tunnel

The number of people missing after devastating flash floods in Nepal and Tibet has jumped by more than 400, reaching 1,924, according to Nepal’s disaster authority. The confirmed death toll now stands at 584 in Nepal and five in Tibet. Rescue teams are currently racing against time to save about 100 people trapped inside a tunnel at a hydropower project that was swamped by Wednesday’s flooding. “Two helicopters have been dispatched but it is challenging because it is tough to even locate the entry points of the tunnel,” army spokesperson Raja Ram Basnet told AFP. The army is working to safely evacuate the trapped individuals, while relief efforts are also under way to provide supplies to those already rescued. The operation remains difficult due to the damage caused by the floodwaters.
