Nepal locates one of three missing Spaniards after deadly floods

The Nepal Tourism Board has confirmed that one of the three Spanish nationals previously listed as missing after severe flooding in the north of the country has been found. No further details about the person’s identity or the circumstances of the discovery were provided. Two Spanish citizens remain unaccounted for, according to the board’s latest update. Earlier, the Spanish Foreign Ministry had reported four Spaniards missing but revised that number down to three on Friday. The announcement came after the Nepalese government published a list of more than 600 missing tourists, which included two Spanish women and one Spanish man. Authorities in Nepal say the total number of unaccounted travelers also includes 98 Indians, 65 Americans, 61 Ukrainians, 51 Malaysians, 35 Australians, and 33 British nationals, among others. So far, security forces and tourist police have evacuated 121 foreign visitors from affected areas, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA). The number of people missing nationwide has risen sharply to 1,924, after authorities added more than 900 workers from hydropower projects destroyed by the floodwaters. The earlier count stood at 977. Among those unaccounted for are 933 hydropower plant employees, over 100 security and customs personnel, 473 foreign tourists, and 149 Nepalese residents living abroad, along with local citizens.
