China has publicly acknowledged for the first time that it sent technical experts to assist Pakistan's air force during last year's conflict with India. In a broadcast on Thursday, state television CCTV interviewed Chinese engineer Zhang Heng, who said he provided on-site technical support to Pakistan during the war.
Zhang works for the Chengdu Aircraft Design and Research Institute, part of the Aviation Industry Corporation of China (AVIC). During the conflict, a Chinese-made fighter jet shot down at least one of India's French-made aircraft, according to reports.
The confirmation marks a rare admission of direct Chinese involvement in the hostilities between the two nuclear-armed neighbors.
