Zelensky Outlines Diplomatic Push as Ukraine Awaits Russian Response

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has disclosed a concerted diplomatic effort, backed by the United States and European allies, to present a revised peace proposal to Moscow. The initiative represents a significant push to restart stalled negotiations aimed at ending the ongoing war.

President Zelenskyy confirmed that a new 20-point peace plan, developed in coordination with Washington, has been sent to the Kremlin for review [34001]. He stated that Ukraine is now awaiting Russia's official response to the proposal [34222]. While the specific terms remain confidential, the plan is understood to involve some concessions from Kyiv, though major issues like the status of occupied territories are unresolved [34222].

The diplomatic move follows pressure from former U.S. President Donald Trump, who urged Ukraine to seek a deal [22122]. In response, European leaders have rallied behind President Zelenskyy, affirming their support for Ukraine's position and the principle that any peace agreement must not be dictated solely by Russia and the U.S. [9884]. Zelenskyy emphasized that any progress is entirely conditional on Russia demonstrating a genuine willingness to halt its invasion and withdraw troops ">[21646].

Concurrently, Ukraine and its allies are escalating economic pressure on Moscow to strengthen their diplomatic hand. President Zelenskyy recently imposed sanctions on 165 Russian individuals and companies accused of supplying the military, a move timed to influence a new European Union sanctions package [41341]. In a notable escalation, these Ukrainian sanctions are also set to target entities from China, challenging Beijing's claimed neutrality [32979].

Parallel efforts are underway in the United States to constrict Russian war funding. A bipartisan group of senators has introduced the "Decreasing Russian Oil Profits Act," which would sanction buyers of Russian oil who exceed a price cap, as well as their service providers [28327]. Former President Trump has also threatened "massive" new tariffs on nations that purchase Russian petroleum [41731].

Despite the diplomatic offensive, President Zelenskyy has issued a stark warning, asserting that "Russia won't stop" and remains an intractable adversary [42676]. He has cautioned that if Russia "torpedoes" the current peace talks, he is prepared to overhaul Ukraine's government to mobilize for a renewed "technological fight" [41691]. The coming days, as Kyiv awaits Moscow's answer, are seen as a critical juncture that will determine the next phase of the conflict [34222].
