Jeffrey R. Holland, a senior leader of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, has died. He was 85.
Holland was the acting president of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles. This group is the second-highest governing body in the church. Because of this position, he was next in line to become the global faith's president.
The church president is considered a "prophet, seer, and revelator" by its members. Holland was widely seen as a likely future president.
No cause of death was immediately released. The church, often called the Mormon church, has over 17 million members worldwide.
