Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan spoke by phone with Niger's coup leader, General Abdourahamane Tiani, on Thursday.
In the call, Erdogan expressed Turkey's continued support for Niger. He also warned against foreign intervention in the West African nation, according to a statement from Turkey's Communications Directorate.
The two leaders discussed bilateral relations and regional issues. The conversation comes as Niger's military government, which took power in July, faces economic sanctions and potential military action from neighboring countries.
The regional bloc ECOWAS has threatened to use force to restore democracy in Niger. Turkey's statement did not specify if this threat was discussed directly.
