Egypt's Agriculture Minister Alaa Farouk met with Yasmine Fouad, Executive Secretary of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD), in Cairo to finalize logistics and establish a joint executive committee to oversee preparations for the 2028 summit [272353].

In Abuja, the group known as MIKTA — a partnership of Mexico, Indonesia, South Korea, Turkey and Australia — asked Nigeria to back reforms to the global system that funds climate action. Australia's High Commissioner to Nigeria, Leilani Bin-Juda, said Nigeria's voice would help build momentum for practical reform ahead of COP31 [272491].
