Five countries have asked Nigeria to support reforms to the global system that funds climate action. The group, known as MIKTA, made the request in Abuja as countries prepare for the COP31 climate summit.
Australia’s High Commissioner to Nigeria, Leilani Bin-Juda, said Nigeria’s voice would help build momentum for practical reform ahead of COP31. She spoke at the opening of the meeting between the envoys and Nigerian officials.
MIKTA is a partnership of Mexico, Indonesia, South Korea, Turkey and Australia. The five middle-power nations work together on global issues, including climate finance — the money wealthy countries provide to help poorer nations cut emissions and cope with climate impacts.
