NATO leaders received an unusual gift from Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan after a summit in Ankara: a revolver and six bullets. Several leaders said they only discovered the contents of the package later, or did not see it before security services seized it.
Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney joked that his gift of maple syrup “kind of undermatched” Erdogan’s offering. British Prime Minister Keir Starmer also received the package. The gifts have raised questions about protocol and security at international meetings.
