Thousands of lightning strikes over the weekend sparked a surge of wildfires in the Northwest Territories. Officials report 66 active fires burning across the region.
The main concern remains a fire near Fort Simpson, where an evacuation alert is still in place. Another fire near the Alberta border threatens a major highway. High heat and the risk of dry lightning continue for areas including Wood Buffalo National Park, Fort Smith, and the Sahtú and Dehcho regions.
