Ukraine's 3,500 km Drones Hit Russia Deep as New Missiles Appear on Moscow Rooftops
Ukraine has struck deep inside Russia using new long-range drones capable of flying 3,500 kilometers, while Moscow has responded by deploying new weapons on skyscraper rooftops to defend the capital.
Ukraine's military intelligence agency, the HUR, announced its operators now have drones with a range of up to 3,500 kilometers, putting every point in European Russia and territory as far east as Krasnoyarsk in Siberia within striking distance [161537][162994]. In a separate operation, Ukrainian forces have also achieved sustained fire control over the occupied Donetsk Airport, a facility Russia has held since 2015, rendering it unusable for Russian military operations [166432].
In response to these attacks, new weapons have reportedly been placed on the rooftops of skyscrapers in Moscow to strengthen air defenses [167823].
Meanwhile, a Ukrainian naval drone exploded in the Romanian port of Constanta after its navigation systems were jammed by Russian electronic warfare, Ukraine's navy said [167424][167254][167363]. No injuries were reported. Constanta is a key NATO hub on the Black Sea, and the incident raises concerns about the war spilling over into NATO territory [167424][167254].
Ukraine is also deploying drone-mounted magnetometers to detect landmines from a safe distance, reducing risk for demining teams in one of the most mined countries in the world [152738]. The country loses an estimated $11 billion per year to Russian mines in lost agricultural output, damaged infrastructure, and blocked development, and full cleanup could take decades [153330].
