A senior U.S. envoy says he will travel to Moscow for direct talks with President Vladimir Putin on ending the war in Ukraine.
Steve Witkoff stated that Russian officials invited him and fellow envoy Jared Kushner for the meeting. He called the invitation a "significant statement." The two men plan to leave on Thursday night.
The talks will focus on the latest American proposals for a peace plan. Witkoff made the announcement during an interview at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.
U.S. President Donald Trump remains focused on the issue, according to the envoy. The surprise Moscow trip marks a high-level attempt to restart diplomacy between the two nations.
