The number of people killed in Iran's ongoing anti-government protests is rising, but a true count remains difficult to confirm.
Nationwide demonstrations began in late December. Since then, the Iranian regime has imposed severe internet restrictions. This blackout hinders communication and makes independent verification of casualties extremely challenging.
As of January 19, two leading human rights groups have confirmed nearly 4,000 deaths. Both organizations state this figure is likely a significant underestimate.
The exact death toll remains unclear. However, all available reports indicate it is high and continues to grow.
