Harvard Sees More Chinese Students Despite U.S. Visa Crackdown
New data from Harvard University shows a rise in students from mainland China. This increase happened during a time of stricter U.S. visa rules. The number of Chinese students at Harvard grew by 4.5% this autumn. The total rose from 1,390 students in 2024 to 1,452 in 2025. The figures were released by the university on Friday. This growth occurred under the Trump administration. Its policies aimed to limit visas for Chinese students and reduce foreign influence at U.S. schools. Enrolment from Hong Kong also increased, from 68 to 73 students. The number from Macau remained very small. The data suggests that demand for a Harvard education remains strong among Chinese students. It also shows that visa policies have not yet reduced their presence at this top university.
