Hong Kong Court Jails 61-Year-Old Over Facebook Posts
A 61-year-old retiree has been remanded in custody in Hong Kong for allegedly posting seditious content on social media. Chong Wai-man faced West Kowloon Court on Thursday. He is charged with one count of intentionally publishing seditious material. This charge falls under the city's Safeguarding National Security Ordinance. Prosecutors state that Chong shared seditious statements and images on his Facebook page. The alleged activity occurred between March 2024 and November 2025. The court documents claim the posted materials were intended to incite hatred against the Hong Kong government and the Chinese central government. They also allegedly encouraged unlawful acts. The defendant did not enter a plea during the hearing. The case has been adjourned until a later date. Chong will remain in custody until his next court appearance.
