A leading UK university leader says a degree is no longer a guaranteed ticket to a better life.
Professor Shitij Kapur, head of King’s College London, argues there are now too many graduates. He says this means universities can no longer promise students a good job after graduation.
He described a degree today as merely a "visa" to enter the professional world. It is a basic requirement, not a "passport to social mobility."
This shift comes as nearly half of the UK population now enters higher education. Professor Kapur says students must accept this new reality.
