Bakırköy Mayor Arrested? 39 Detained in Corruption Probe

Istanbul prosecutors have arrested 39 people as part of a corruption investigation into Bakırköy Municipality, according to Turkish media reports. The suspects were among 63 people detained in a probe into "bid-rigging" (illegally manipulating public tenders) and "embezzlement" (theft of public funds by officials). Of the 63 detainees, 18 were released under judicial supervision, while six others were freed after giving statements to prosecutors.
