Russia's influence among young Africans has grown sharply in recent years, surpassing former colonial power France, according to a new survey. China, however, remains ahead of both.
The African Youth Survey, commissioned by the South Africa-based Ichikowitz Family Foundation, found that 54 per cent of young Africans now view Russia as an ally. Observers say the shift is significant as Africa becomes increasingly important to both Moscow and Beijing.
Analysts warn that Russia's rivals should take the change seriously. Many young Africans now see Russia as a friend, a perception that could reshape diplomatic and economic ties across the continent.
