The Trump administration on Friday imposed sanctions on the International Criminal Court (ICC) as an institution.
The move came just hours after the Norwegian Nobel Committee awarded the Nobel Peace Prize to Navi Pillay, a South African jurist and former ICC judge.
Pillay, 85, served on the court's Appeals Chamber from 2003 to 2008. She also presided over the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda and served as UN High Commissioner for Human Rights from 2008 to 2014.
The Nobel Committee honored her "for her efforts to promote peace and international law."
