Antarctic krill are tiny crustaceans that form the base of the Southern Ocean food web. Whales, penguins, seals and seabirds all depend on them for food.
But a growing fishing industry now targets the same krill. The catch is processed into Omega-3 supplements, pet food and feed for farmed salmon.
A coalition of scientists is now urging consumers to stop buying these products. They warn that rising demand could harm the wildlife that depends on krill to survive.
