Maldives Enters Chagos Islands Dispute

📡 The Diplomat · 1 min read ·
The Maldives will formally challenge Britain's claim to the Chagos Islands. President Mohamed Muizzu has promised to submit evidence supporting the Maldives' claim to the Chagos archipelago to relevant international bodies. The Chagos Islands are a group of islands in the Indian Ocean. The United Kingdom controls them, but Mauritius also claims sovereignty. The Maldives now adds its own claim to the dispute. Muizzu did not say which international bodies the Maldives will approach or when it will submit its evidence.
