Israel Wants to Strip This Film’s Directors of Citizenship

A new documentary called NAZA has caused a political crisis in Israel. The film, which premiered at the Venice Film Festival this month, uses interviews with 24 anonymous Israeli intelligence officers and soldiers. It reveals how the Israeli military uses artificial intelligence, mass surveillance, and airstrikes to kill Palestinians in Gaza remotely. These operations often kill civilians and destroy homes. The Israeli government is reacting strongly. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is pushing for a law that could take away the Israeli citizenship of the film’s two directors, Yuval Abraham and Rachel Szor. The film was produced by the Guardian. It opens in New York this week and will expand to theaters worldwide. In November, it will stream for free on the Guardian website.
