Russia struck the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine (NAS) in central Kyiv on Monday afternoon. The building is more than a century old.
Witnesses said people climbed onto windows to avoid being buried alive. One described the scene as “reminiscent of 11 September at the World Trade Center.”
The NAS is Ukraine’s top scientific institution. It was founded in 1918 and holds historic archives and research centers.
