US President Donald Trump said on Sunday he expects talks with Iran to resume in the coming week. His comment came shortly after he rejected a truce proposal from Tehran.
Iranian officials presented the plan at the UN General Assembly in New York. It called for a seven-day truce, followed by the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, a key shipping channel for global oil trade.
Trump dismissed the proposal. He has also suggested he may restart full-scale air strikes on Iranian targets.
Still, he told the news platform Axios that he expects negotiations to move forward soon.
The remarks signal that diplomacy may continue even as tensions remain high between Washington and Tehran.
