Insulin crisis in Iran: war and shipping limits leave patients scrambling

For Ali Mohseni, the US-Israeli war with Iran is not measured in missile ranges or battlefield maps. It is measured in the insulin pens his 74-year-old mother needs every day. Before the conflict, Mohseni said, a five-pack of insulin pens was easy to find at almost any pharmacy in Tehran. Now, the price has more than tripled. Supplies are so scarce that he sometimes visits several pharmacies before he finds them. “She cannot simply stop taking it,” Mohseni said. His mother is one of many patients in Iran facing growing medicine shortages as the war and shipping restrictions continue.
