Environmental and public health groups are suing the Trump administration over its move to remove limits on climate-warming pollution from power plants.
On Monday, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced a plan to revoke most of a Biden-era rule that limited greenhouse gas emissions from fossil fuel power plants. The plan was finalized in the Federal Register on Thursday.
The rule targeted emissions that drive climate change. By rolling it back, the EPA removes a key barrier to building and running fossil fuel plants.
The groups argue the EPA does not have the legal right to drop these protections. They filed suit to block the rollback.
The case is the latest fight over how far the federal government can go in regulating pollution from oil, gas, and coal.
