Ukraine warns UN: Russian airspace 'not safe' amid escalation

Ukraine has formally notified the United Nations aviation watchdog that Russian airspace is becoming increasingly dangerous, urging international carriers to avoid it. Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiga announced the notification to the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), the UN body that sets global standards for air travel. “Against the backdrop of Russia's drastic escalation of terror against Ukraine, Russian airspace is becoming increasingly unsafe,” Sybiga said. “We urge everyone to avoid it.” The warning follows what Kyiv describes as a sharp rise in Russian attacks.
