Iran and Oman Reach Hormuz Deal, But Reopening Depends on US

Iran and Oman have agreed on how to share control and revenues from the Strait of Hormuz, but the key waterway will stay closed unless the United States accepts their terms, Iran’s Revolutionary Guards said on Wednesday. The two countries have held on-and-off talks for weeks over managing traffic through the strait, which carried one-fifth of global oil and liquefied natural gas shipments before the war began in February. Most shipping has since stopped, cutting off vital energy supplies and shaking world markets. The new deal aims to restore order, but its success now hinges on Washington’s response.
