Pakistan’s army chief and Iran’s top diplomat met on Wednesday to discuss how to revive direct negotiations between Tehran and Washington, according to the Iranian government. Field Marshal Asim Munir and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi spoke about “ways to strengthen peace, stability and security in West Asia,” the Iranian government said in a statement. The talks come as both countries seek to ease tensions in the region. Pakistan and Iran share a long border and have recently worked to improve their own ties. Iran’s direct talks with the United States have been frozen for months. The two nations have not had formal diplomatic relations since 1980.
