"Don't Film Police, 'To Keep the Streets Clean': Ex-Vox Leader's Plea Sparks Outrage"

Macarena Olona, a former leader of the far-right Spanish party Vox, has urged her social media followers not to film state security forces in Ceuta, a Spanish enclave in North Africa. In a post on Friday, she pleaded: "Do not film military, police, or Civil Guard operations." She said she was worried that the authorities would not "feel safe working" if their actions were recorded. Olona did not specify which types of operations she believed should go unrecorded. However, she ended her message with a racist remark: "If you want to keep the neighborhoods clean, those of you asking for help, help now." Her comment appears to refer to the thousands of migrants, many of them unaccompanied minors from Morocco and sub-Saharan Africa, who are currently sleeping on the streets of the city. "Spread this message so they feel safe working. This message needs to go viral, please," Olona urged, showing clear concern for the authorities rather than for the migrants who arrived in Ceuta with nothing. The call comes as around 4,000 migrants were ordered on Thursday by Civil Guard and National Police officers to leave the Trampolín Beach. The area, located near the CETI migrant reception center, had been used as an improvised camp since migrants entered Spain on July 30 and 31. In a related political move, the leader of the conservative People's Party (PP), Alberto Núñez Feijóo, has proposed returning all migrant minors who arrived in Ceuta to Morocco. However, Teresa Gisbert, the Chief Prosecutor for Minors, has rejected this plan, stating it "makes no sense" due to the legal obligation to assess the "best interests of the child" on a personal basis. According to Gisbert, minors interviewed so far do not want to return to Morocco, but rather wish to travel to mainland Spain.
