Syria’s SDF merger with state institutions moves to ‘actual implementation’
The Syrian presidential committee tasked with implementing the January 29 agreement with the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) has confirmed that the group’s integration into state institutions is now moving into its active phase. Ahmad al-Hilali, spokesperson for the committee and deputy governor of Hasaka, said that recent statements by SDF commander Mazloum Abdi about completing the military, security, and administrative merger represent a significant and positive development. In remarks reported by Syrian state media, al-Hilali described Abdi’s comments as a clear announcement that the process is shifting “from the stage of understandings to the stage of actual implementation” of the SDF’s integration into the Syrian state. The January 29 agreement, signed between the SDF and the central government, outlines the framework for incorporating the Kurdish-led forces into national institutions.
