The West African bloc ECOWAS has called on military leaders in Guinea-Bissau to release jailed opposition figures. Releasing the detainees, the bloc said, would “bolster the credibility” of the country’s year-long transition process. The demand comes as the nation struggles to return to democratic rule after a 2022 coup.
