China Backs Indonesia’s Export Policy, Calls for Consistency

Chinese Ambassador to Indonesia Wang Lutong stated on Tuesday that Beijing respects Jakarta’s decision to centralize control over strategic commodity exports. The ambassador urged Indonesia to maintain policy stability to support long-term trade relations. Wang made the remarks during a business forum in Jakarta, emphasizing that predictable regulations benefit both nations. “We understand Indonesia’s need to manage its resources,” he said. “But frequent changes create uncertainty for investors.” Indonesia recently tightened rules on exports of key commodities like nickel and coal, aiming to boost domestic processing. China, a major buyer of these resources, has previously raised concerns over sudden policy shifts. The ambassador did not specify which policies he referred to, but his comments signal China’s desire for clear, stable trade rules. Analysts say consistent policies could help Indonesia attract more foreign investment in its processing industries.
