President Xi Jinping warned against creating “new historical injustices” in the era of artificial intelligence on Friday, urging greater support for AI adoption in the Global South and a more open, inclusive approach to development.
Speaking at the 2026 World Artificial Intelligence Conference in Shanghai, Xi’s remarks came shortly after US President Donald Trump launched an unprecedented attack on Beijing during a prime-time national broadcast. The Chinese leader did not directly reference Trump’s comments but stressed the need for fair and equitable access to AI technology worldwide.
Xi called on nations to avoid repeating past mistakes of inequality as AI reshapes the global economy. He emphasized that developing countries should not be left behind in the AI revolution.
