ANKARA, Turkey – Türkiye has expressed its condolences and offered support following a deadly ferry accident on the Euphrates River in eastern Syria. The accident occurred near the city of Deir ez-Zor, according to a statement from the Turkish Foreign Ministry.
Ankara confirmed it is assisting with search and rescue efforts in the area. The ministry did not provide a specific death toll, but local reports indicate that dozens of people, including women and children, died when the overcrowded vessel capsized.
Türkiye, which shares a border with Syria, has maintained a diplomatic presence in parts of the country. The statement emphasized solidarity with the Syrian people during the tragedy.
