South Africa’s minister of Public Works and Infrastructure, Dean Macpherson, has raised urgent concerns about security at the country’s border with Zimbabwe. After visiting the area along the Limpopo River, Macpherson described the situation as “shocking.”
“Something has to be done urgently,” he said. “There literally is no border in some places.”
The minister did not provide specific details on what measures he plans to propose. However, his comments highlight a growing worry over illegal crossings and smuggling along the porous frontier. The border is a key transit point for people and goods between the two nations.
Macpherson’s visit and statement come as South Africa’s government faces pressure to tighten border control amid broader regional security concerns. No official response from Zimbabwean authorities has been reported yet.
