Veteran politician Andy Burnham has taken a major step toward becoming Britain’s next prime minister. On July 9, nominations formally opened to replace Keir Starmer as Labour Party leader. Burnham is the only Labour member of Parliament who has publicly declared his candidacy.
In a separate, closely watched race, far-right figure Nigel Farage is running for Parliament in the coastal constituency of Clacton. His opponent is Count Binface, a satirical candidate known for campaigning on quirky policies. FRANCE 24’s Benedicte Paviot reports.
