UNESCO has recognized Australia's efforts to protect the Great Barrier Reef, but warns that mass bleaching remains a serious threat. The world's largest coral reef system has once again avoided being placed on the United Nations' list of endangered World Heritage sites. Environmental groups, however, say the reprieve is temporary without stronger action on climate change.
