THE HAGUE – The International Criminal Court (ICC) expressed concern Monday after Mali, Burkina Faso, and Niger announced their withdrawal from the court. The ICC stated that the move undermines the global pursuit of justice.
The three West African nations, all currently under military rule, have decided to leave the institution. The ICC is a permanent court that prosecutes individuals for war crimes, genocide, and crimes against humanity. Without membership, these countries are no longer legally bound to cooperate with the court’s investigations or arrest warrants.
