Strait of Hormuz: 11,000 Crew Stuck Between Iran and US Orders
Shots have been exchanged in the Strait of Hormuz. The situation has created a diplomatic and logistical standoff. A key question remains: how to safely evacuate 11,000 crew members trapped on ships caught between two opposing sides. Iran is telling the crews to leave. However, it insists they must cross via its own territory, specifically through Larak Island in the northern part of the strait. The United States has issued different safety instructions. The crew are stuck in the middle of two warring belligerents who are currently negotiating. Each side gives conflicting advice on safe evacuation routes. France 24's Gavin Lee spoke to Nitya Labh, an Academy Fellow in the International Security Programme at Chatham House, about the crisis.
