Istanbul police detained several people on Sunday after a banned LGBT+ pride march in the Kalamış neighborhood. Among those held were two journalists, Yusuf Çelik and Doğa Tekneci, who were covering the event.
The group, carrying a banner that read "From Deniz to Arya, we will blow as the north wind," declared their intention to "build a world where trans people die of old age." The march was the 12th Istanbul Trans Pride event, which authorities had previously banned. Police detained participants as they dispersed after the gathering.
