An analysis by The Guardian has found that two World Cup matches were played in conditions classified as “severe heat,” a level that a global football players’ union has previously said should trigger a delay or postponement.
The games took place in Miami and Monterrey. The union warned that playing in such heat poses serious health risks to athletes.
A further four matches were held in cities where outside temperatures also reached that dangerous level. However, conditions inside those stadiums were reduced by air conditioning.
