Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney announced new sanctions against Russia at the G7 summit, one day after a missile strike hit a historic monastery in Ukraine. Carney condemned the attack on the Lavra monastery and said the new measures target Russia’s so-called “shadow fleet” of oil tankers and the country’s energy revenues. The sanctions aim to cut off funding for Moscow’s war effort by disrupting its ability to sell oil and bypass existing restrictions.
