Iran: U.S. Peace Deal Must Include Permanent Lebanon Ceasefire
Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said Tuesday that ending the war on all fronts, including in Lebanon, is “the most important” condition for a peace deal with the United States announced the previous day. Speaking during a briefing with foreign diplomats broadcast on state television, Araghchi stated: “The important point I want to emphasise here is that in our view, there are two parties to this memorandum – one side is America and Israel, and the other side is Iran and Hezbollah.” The remarks signal Tehran’s insistence that any agreement with Washington must address the conflict in Lebanon permanently, not just the situation in Gaza or other regions. Araghchi described Hezbollah, the Iran-backed Lebanese militant group, as a direct party to the negotiations. The U.S. has not publicly confirmed the details of the proposed memorandum. Iran’s demand for a permanent ceasefire in Lebanon adds a new layer of complexity to ongoing diplomatic efforts.
