Wildfire Smoke and Heat Are Destroying Decades of Clean Air Progress, UN Warns
Wildfires and heatwaves fueled by climate change are reversing years of progress in cleaning up the world’s air, according to a new report from the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) [237506][236860].
Extreme fire-smoke events have tripled globally since the 1990s, and rising temperatures are making ground-level ozone—a harmful pollutant that forms when heat reacts with vehicle and industrial emissions—more severe [236904].
