Police in Monaco are hunting a 39-year-old Ukrainian woman suspected of planting a bomb that injured three people, including a Ukrainian-born tycoon, in an unprecedented attack on the wealthy principality.

Authorities believe the suspect, identified as Anastasiia Berezovska, may not have acted alone and that she spent days observing the attack location before striking [188585][188227]. The explosion occurred Monday evening when a package bomb left in a backpack detonated outside a building on Rue Révérend Père Louis Frolla [185820]. The blast injured a man and a woman between 50 and 60 years old and a 13-year-old teenager [185062][185820]. The two adults were transported to a hospital in Nice, France, while the teenager was taken to a local hospital [185820].

Investigative sources identified one of the injured as Vadim Ermolaev, a 58-year-old Ukrainian businessman and investor who holds one of the largest fortunes in his country [185820]. Ermolaev, a resident of Monaco, made his fortune in businesses in eastern Ukraine and in Crimea after Russia occupied the peninsula in 2014. Ukrainian authorities have accused him of having ties to Moscow [185820].

Police say the suspect disguised herself as a man to avoid detection and that an Interpol Red Notice has been issued for her arrest on charges of attempted murder, placing an explosive device on a public road, and criminal conspiracy [188585][188227]. German police have already raided her apartment [188227]. Authorities are now searching for any potential accomplices connected to the incident [188585].

Monaco’s Prince Albert called the explosion “a shock” for the country and confirmed that all state services are working “in close cooperation with French authorities” to investigate the attack [185820]. The bomb was reported to contain bolts and pellets [186026].
