A senior U.S. counterterrorism official has resigned, stating he does not want to be part of starting "another endless war," this time with Iran.
Joe Kent served as the deputy assistant secretary for counterterrorism at the State Department. He was the highest-ranking Trump administration official to leave his post in direct protest of the conflict.
In his resignation letter, Kent wrote that the current path leads to a war he does not believe is in America's interest.
Kent is also known for his past support of conspiracy theories. These include the "Pizzagate" false story and claims about a "deep state" working against the president.
The State Department has not yet publicly commented on his resignation. The departure highlights deep divisions within the government over Iran policy.
