Qatar has won a seat on the Executive Council of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW). Member states elected Qatar for a three-year term from 2026 to 2028.
The election occurred at the OPCW's Conference of States Parties in The Hague. This annual meeting brings together the countries that support the chemical weapons ban.
According to the Qatar News Agency (QNA), the election shows the international community's confidence in the country. The OPCW is the body that enforces the global ban on chemical weapons.
The Executive Council is one of the OPCW's two main decision-making bodies. Qatar will help oversee the organization's work and policies during its term.
