A man once considered a suspect in the 2019 disappearance of a California teenager has now been charged with her murder.
Joshua Martinez was arrested in connection with the death of 17-year-old Victoria Marquina. Marquina vanished from Sutter Creek, a small town northeast of Sacramento, in 2019. Her case had grown cold.
Authorities initially identified Martinez as a person of interest. A "person of interest" is someone police believe may have information related to a crime. He was an early suspect but was not charged until now.
The Amador County Sheriff's Office announced the murder charge this week. The arrest provides a major development in the long-unsolved case. No further details about new evidence were immediately released.
The community of Sutter Creek had marked Victoria Marquina's disappearance for nearly five years. Investigators are urging anyone with information to contact the sheriff's office.
